About The Position

Under the direction of the PTA Program Director, the LPT PTA Lab Instructor is responsible for the supervision and instruction of students in the PTA lab setting, ensuring that students acquire the necessary practical skills and knowledge to succeed as physical therapist assistants. The instructor will provide hands-on instruction, assist in skill development, and ensure that students are prepared for clinical and practical assessments.

Requirements

  • DPT, MSPT, or Associate's degree in Physical Therapist Assistant required.
  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in Massachusetts required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a practicing PT or PTA in various settings (e.g., outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation) and areas of expertise (e.g., orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary).
  • Knowledge of the successful PT-PTA relationship.
  • In-depth knowledge of physical therapy practices, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate students' clinical skills and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong organization skills to manage lab resources, equipment, and student schedules.
  • Ability to create a positive, hands-on learning environment that fosters student growth and professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in higher education, especially in clinical or lab settings, is highly desirable.
  • Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise PTA students in clinical skills and lab activities, including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, modalities, patient positioning, mobility, and other physical therapy interventions.
  • Promote safety in all student activities.
  • Observe and assess students' practical skills during lab sessions, providing constructive feedback to ensure students meet academic and clinical performance standards.
  • Ensure skill checks are completed, and students are prepared for practical exams.
  • Participate in meetings with each student to discuss performance following practical exams.
  • Collaborate with the PTA Program Director and faculty to ensure that lab sessions align with overall course objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure that students demonstrate proficiency in clinical procedures, patient care techniques, and professional conduct.
  • Assist in the development of instructional materials including lab exercises, guidelines, and assessments to enhance hands-on learning.
  • Ensure that the lab environment is well-maintained, safe, and organized, including ordering supplies, setting up equipment for lab activities, and maintaining compliance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, answering questions, offering advice on skill development, and creating a positive, supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the PTA Program Director, faculty, staff, and clinical instructors to ensure consistency between the academic and clinical components of the program.
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework, including but not limited to Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting, Title IX and Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Harassment, FERPA, and Bi-Annual Municipal Ethics Law.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
