The Laboratory Director is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and provision of diagnostic laboratory services, which include inpatient, outpatient, and reference work. This position operates in alignment with the hospital's policies and the directives of both the Administration and Medical Staff. The Laboratory Director is tasked with the administration and management of departmental resources to ensure maximum benefit to the hospital. In addition to administrative duties, the Laboratory Director will also engage in clinical responsibilities as dictated by departmental policy. This role requires the ability to provide advanced clinical expertise and education to departmental staff members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the laboratory team. A key focus of the Laboratory Director is to ensure excellence in the delivery of patient-centered services. This is achieved through active participation in laboratory and hospital Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities. The Laboratory Director plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital's compliance with accreditation standards set forth by JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, and CLIA ‘88. Furthermore, this position serves as the Laboratory Compliance Officer, ensuring adherence to appropriate billing regulations and maintaining the integrity of laboratory operations. In addition to these responsibilities, the Laboratory Director participates in the Hospital's Service Excellence Program, which is designed to enhance patient care and improve employee and physician satisfaction. This includes a thorough understanding of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers) and Core Measure Set, which are essential for measuring patient perceptions of care and performance based on medical research. The Laboratory Director is also involved in hospital-wide and unit-specific performance projects, contributing to the overall quality and efficiency of laboratory services.
