About The Position

This fast-paced laboratory conducts a variety of analysis ranging from wet chemistry, Ion Chromatography, microbiological and radiological testing of drinking water. A & L Laboratory- A Division of Granite State Analytical. This opportunity is in Auburn, Maine. Candidate must have a minimum of 30 Chemistry college credits. The Laboratory Director is responsible for maintaining positive operating margin at the laboratory level and for meeting and exceeding the annual budget. Supervises all laboratory personnel and provides leadership and direction as needed. Responsible for ensuring compliance and integration of facility operation with corporate and regulatory policies and procedures. The lab director will serve as a liaison with corporate business partners and will champion Company policies, vision, and mission.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry or a science-related field required with at least 30 college semester credit hours in chemistry.
  • 5 years management experience.
  • 5 years analytical experience or related technical knowledge preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and services.
  • Familiarity with EPA, DOT, OSHA, and DOL regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Strong customer relations skills.
  • Ability to manage a business at a profit/loss responsibility level.
  • Ability to control operating budgets.
  • Ability to develop and enforce policies and operating practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate responsibilities.
  • Ability to successfully handle contract and other negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the laboratory to provide positive operating margin and meet annual budgetary goals.
  • Growing the organization's lab service offerings to meet organizational strategic objectives.
  • Working with all laboratories' operations to continuously improve lab technical capabilities and services.
  • Developing and validating methods, work instructions, and training for all laboratory employees.
  • Ensure laboratory operations meet the technical quality objectives required by various accrediting bodies.
  • Assists with data entry, quality control, and sample receipt as needed.
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, consultation and support to laboratory staff.
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to laboratory staff and support their professional growth and development.
  • Builds and maintains positive customer relationships and sales growth through direct interaction with customers and Eurofins Environment Testing America sales personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains an active and positive safety culture and ensures that the Employee Health and Safety procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that standard operating procedures for the facility are implemented and reviewed regularly.
  • Prioritizes the activities of the operations groups to ensure key goals are achieved and customer service needs are addressed.
  • Provides periodic reports to ensure that goals and objectives are being achieved and to recognize opportunities for development.
  • Works with Project Managers and Customer Service Managers to ensure the accurate forecast of receipts, provide quality analytical data to clients and meet on-time delivery dates.
  • Communicates facility-specific goals and objectives to employees.
  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities with direct reports to achieve strong staff performance.
  • Mentors key employees.
  • Evaluates and maintains appropriate staffing levels to support operational needs and budgetary requirements.
  • Actively participates in the process of sharing and adopting best practices within Eurofins Environment Testing America.
  • Responsible for upholding and enforcing Company policies, including but not limited to, Quality, Safety, Standard Operating Procedures, Ethics, and Harassment.
