About The Position

The Laboratory Course Technician for Biology at Hofstra University is responsible for organizing and preparing laboratory materials for various undergraduate biology classes, including Microbiology and Introductory Biology. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum 1 year microbiology and molecular biology experience (as a student or through employment).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Experience with common molecular biology and microbiology laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree and/or commensurate experience preferred.
• Molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, or microbiology research experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares media and microbial cultures for microbiology laboratory classes.
• Prepares solutions, molecular reagents, and other materials necessary for various laboratory classes in collaboration with the part-time laboratory technician.
• Organizes and maintains adequate stocks of lab chemicals and general laboratory supplies.
• Monitors and performs routine maintenance and care of scientific equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
