The Laboratory Coordinator position at Virginia Tech is a temporary, part-time role focused on ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of various chemistry laboratories, including Organic Synthesis and Techniques, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic, Instrumental Analysis, and Med-Chem Laboratories. These laboratories cater to hundreds of students weekly, making the role crucial for maintaining high educational standards and safety protocols. The coordinator will be responsible for preparing and distributing reagent solutions of specific compositions used in laboratory experiments, revising and developing laboratory procedures, and managing the teaching budgets for the respective laboratories. Additionally, the coordinator will handle laboratory facilities and equipment, oversee the associated stock, and supervise work-study students. A significant aspect of the role includes ensuring compliance with laboratory safety practices and procedures, as well as stepping in to fulfill supervisory duties in the absence of the Lab Manager.
