The laboratory associate role supports procedural and therapeutic services. Assists with bedside collection of fine needle aspiration biopsy specimens (FNA) and prepares glass slides from cytologic specimens for subsequent microscopic evaluation using a variety of techniques (direct smear, thinlayer, cytospin, cell block). Performs multiple staining techniques. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Confirms patient data at the time of specimen receiving and inputs data into LIS. Performs moderate and high complexity testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager. This position performs routine laboratory testing, quality control testing, general and instrument maintenance, calling of critical and questionable results to appropriate providers, and resulting of test using laboratory information systems. Additionally, this role performs general troubleshooting of instrumentation, communicating technical information to appropriate persons.
