About the position

The Laboratory Assistant will support the daily operations of a bacteriology research laboratory by maintaining a clean and organized environment, assisting with laboratory procedures, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and participating in training sessions. This role is essential for the smooth functioning of laboratory activities and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment by following strict sanitation and sterilization procedures.
  • Regularly clean and disinfect lab benches, equipment, and work surfaces to prevent contamination.
  • Ensure proper disposal of all waste, including biological and hazardous materials, according to safety protocols.
  • Update and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols, ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards.
  • Assist researchers with basic laboratory tasks, including preparing culture media, buffers, and other necessary solutions.
  • Sterilize laboratory tools, equipment, and consumables, and prepare bacterial cultures as instructed by research personnel.
  • Perform routine laboratory measurements and record data under the guidance of senior lab members.
  • Support adherence to all regulatory and safety standards and report any potential issues to laboratory management.
  • Maintain an organized digital and physical filing system to ensure accessibility and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Attend and participate in laboratory safety training sessions as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and adhere to all laboratory safety regulations.
  • Ability to follow strict health and safety protocols.

  • Some undergraduate coursework.
  • Basic understanding of lab safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and familiarity with data entry.
