About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant supports the Knight Diagnostic Genetics Laboratory by performing duties including cleaning glassware and instruments, sterilizing glassware and instruments making performing other duties to assure smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and at least two years of college science courses plus one year of college math or computer courses OR High school diploma and successful completion of a lab Assistant Training Program including clinical lab experience
  • Ability to complete time sensitive tasks according to protocols, and prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Proficiency with computers running Windows and PC applications e.g. MS Excel, Oracle, Access, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both on the phone and in person
  • Energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of college lab science courses, plus one year of college math or computer courses
  • Clinical laboratory work experience including general knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials and techniques, and safety
  • Experience with sterilizing procedures strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Oracle

Responsibilities

  • Wash laboratory glassware and other equipment/instruments.
  • Distribute clean glassware and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and supplies for the laboratory.
  • Make and aliquot reagents used in the laboratory per protocol.
  • Maintain clean and organized work spaces for the laboratory wet benches.
  • Monitor temperatures for incubators, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Monitor eye wash stations and diH2O purity.
  • Retrieve specimens and/or charts as needed by technologists and the director.
  • Assist technologists and directors with miscellaneous tasks as requested.
  • Follow established safety procedures in all areas of the lab.
