About The Position

AV invites applications for a part-time laboratory assistant to join the Biological Materials and Processing Research Team at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton, OH. The successful applicant will become an integral member of a biomaterials research group that includes scientists and engineers at all levels and from a range of personal and professional backgrounds. The successful applicant will join a team that is responsible for identifying novel biosynthetic approaches for the development of unique biomaterials for Air Force-relevant applications. The team includes Materials Scientists, Engineers, Bioinformaticians, Chemists, and Microbiologists. The initial role of the incoming team member will be to assist researchers with general laboratory tasks and duties. As projects evolve in the research team, the team member will have the opportunity to expand their skillset to include project specific tasks. The team member should be prepared to split their time between the Biological Materials and Processing labs located at Wright State University and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in industry or academic setting
  • Current undergraduate student in relevant field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology)
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate with a diverse range of scientists professionally and personally
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite used for email, word processing, spreadsheets, file sharing, and virtual meetings
  • This position requires working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
  • ITAR Requirement: This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on AeroVironment’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with AeroVironment’s business requirements. A “U.S. person” according to the ITAR definition is a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or protected individual such as a refugee or asylee. See 22 CFR § 120.15. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Dishwashing/autoclaving glassware and solutions
  • Cleaning/decontaminating common lab areas
  • Maintaining a common stock of pH and other solutions
  • Restocking common supplies within the lab
  • Housekeeping of common lab areas
  • Project specific tasks including pouring agar plates, common stock solutions, etc.
