Requirements

• High school diploma preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtains venous and capillary blood specimens.
• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
• Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
• Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
• Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
• Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Performs collection of other physiologic samples as required such as bleeding times, sweat chlorides, and therapeutic phlebotomies.
• Prepares and transports specimens to laboratory for analysis.Uses the pneumatic tube system.
• Performs and results waived testing procedures after training and successful competency evaluation.
• Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and notifies MLT, MT, supervisor or director immediately.
• Follows laboratory’s established policies and procedures.
• Documents any corrective action taken when situation deviates from established characteristics on the remedial/corrective action logs. Notifies MT, supervisor of immediate concerns.
• Loads analyzers for technologist
