About The Position

This appointment is in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology in the Dobos laboratory. This position is designed for the applicant(s) to support the general needs specific to this laboratory. This includes appropriate fund allocation (including which fund and fund restrictions and any additional compliance needs) for ordering supplies, tracking, substitutions and management for receiving supplies, development and execution of equipment maintenance plans, shipping biological materials, communicating and coordinating outreach activities and promotion of laboratory accomplishments and engagement with the department/college, and other general duties assigned as needs arise.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in customer service/sales/scheduling.
  • Experience in ordering, tracking and follow-up.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and adhere to federal and state compliance systems.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills (accounting, banking, financial management of a program, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience and passion with outreach/community events.
  • The laboratory assistant shall successfully complete security required elements for employment at the foothills campus as a condition of employment.
  • Due to the nature of this job, the laboratory assistant must be over 21 years old and have a current driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in general life science laboratory support.
  • Experience with gathering content for social media and/or websites.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains records of laboratory items purchased, including assistance with ensuring lab funds are properly spent.
  • Initiates and tracks POs – including for capital assets and service contracts.
  • Organizes and leads purchase of non-specialized materials in general support of laboratory.
  • Determines allocation of laboratory materials purchase requests to small, veteran, woman-owned and similar businesses to adhere to small business subcontracting plans.
  • Provides options for alternate purchase of laboratory materials when supply chain issues prohibit timely receipt of requested items.
  • Manages, schedules, and coordinates shipment/receipt of biological reagents to/from specialized resources and collaborators.
  • Schedules PM for multiple laboratory items (pipette calibration, for example).
  • Assists with calendar scheduling for meetings, collaborations, etc.
  • Determines what laboratory activities, accomplishments, events, etc. are promoted on lab webpage, social media, and with dept/college.
  • Other general duties assigned as needs arise.
