About The Position

The Lab Assistant performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post-analytic phases of waived testing procedures. Duties include face-to-face and telephone customer service, computer data entry and retrieval, and maintaining workplace cleanliness. The Lab Assistant is responsible for documenting all activities, monitoring supplies, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing. This role requires adherence to KP Laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (Washington) within 6 months of hire OR Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent completion of a phlebotomy program OR recent phlebotomy and clinical laboratory experience.
  • Phlebotomy and clinical laboratory training.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens for lab testing.
  • Processes specimens for lab testing according to laboratory procedures.
  • Accessions specimens, retrieves information, and enters results into the computer system.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Performs maintenance and waived testing, including EKG testing.
  • Teaches phlebotomy students and employees.
  • Helps resolve problems and answer pre-analytical procedural questions.
  • Serves as a frontline resource to laboratory customers.
  • Assists in the review and updates of laboratory procedure manuals.
