About The Position

Located in Templeton amongst the oak trees, Adventist Health Twin Cities has been serving northern San Luis Obispo County since 1977. Comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility, our team provides exceptional care in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care, and various medical, surgical and outpatient services. Locals enjoy weekly farmers markets in downtown Templeton, farm-to-fork dining, beautiful landscapes for hiking and biking, and beach days just fifteen minutes away at Cambria and Morro Bay. The position involves collecting blood specimens, handling and processing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing various tasks related to patient registration and specimen management.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Experience in Phlebotomy in acute care environment: Preferred
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPTI) license: Required
  • Phlebotomy Tech (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician II (CPTII): Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood specimens for a variety of laboratory tests using age-appropriate techniques.
  • Handles and transports lab specimens and provides post-phlebotomy care to patients.
  • Receives specimens for testing and assesses them upon receipt according to established criteria.
  • Handles and processes a variety of specimen types to prepare them for analysis.
  • Completes computerized tasks for patient registration and test order entry into the lab information system.
  • Prepares and packages specimens for transport to other laboratories.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies in the work area.
  • Completes basic documentation of pre-analytic and post-analytic work.
  • Participates in managing laboratory workflow by monitoring pending work and escalating priority tasks.
  • Communicates released/reported results and routes them appropriately.
  • Receives incoming calls for the laboratory and assists or transfers calls as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
