Under the direction of the Technical Supervisor of each specialty or the most senior technologist on duty, performs all processing functions. This includes but is not limited to, centrifugation, aliquoting, placing samples in correct racks and receiving batches. Performs a limited number of laboratory analyses and quality control testing following clearly defined preset criteria under close supervision of a Medical Technologist.

Requirements

  • High School Degree, preferred with strong background in the sciences.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates batches for reference laboratory.
  • Prepares samples to go to reference laboratory for testing.
  • Receives specimens from couriers/transport personnel and readies them for analysis.
  • Receives site batches as necessary.
  • Places samples in correct rack for placement on analyzers.
  • Responsible for adding on tests for existing samples.
  • Responsible for test cancelation requests.
  • Answers phone in a professional manner and provides information for our customers.
  • Prepares and transmits reports accurately for customers.
  • Performs laboratory testing under the direct supervision of the Charge Technologist upon completion of training and competency evaluation to include but not limited to the following:
  • Urine dipstick testing.
  • Stool occult blood testing.
  • Kit testing. Ex: rapid strep, pregnancy, etc.
  • Draws blood specimens from patients. (Webster Campus only).
  • Helps in any department that may require assistance.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by Supervisor.
