The Laboratory Assistant position at Kaiser Permanente involves performing venipuncture and skin puncture, as well as handling pre-analytical steps of laboratory testing.   • Perform venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on patients of all ages using appropriate techniques.
  • Label samples accurately and transport them to the laboratory as required.
  • Conduct pre-analytical testing procedures including bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining of specimens.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and reagents.
  • Prepare and instruct patients for diagnostic EKG procedures and perform them as ordered.
  • Download EKG orders and transmit results via MUSE.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on computers and devices as needed.
  • Establish and maintain courteous relations with patients and staff.
  • Check in patients, collect revenue, and provide preparation instructions as necessary.
  • Handle difficult patients professionally and follow directives from supervisors.
  • Six months of phlebotomy experience in an acute care medical center or non-acute care setting.
  • One year of Clinical Lab or equivalent military experience.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) or Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties at a satisfactory performance level.
  • Relevant college courses in the life sciences.
