Requirements

  • 5 years of experience Phlebotomy or Lab Assistant roles (UMC)
  • Required: High School Diploma / GED or equivalent (UMC)
  • Certification Name: Basic Life Support HeartSaver & First Aid Required Issuer: American Heart Association Licensure Speciality: Training Certification Entity: UMC
  • Certification Name: Laboratory Assistant Required Issuer: Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Licensure Speciality: Licensure Entity: UMC
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to instruct others; accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records; understand and follow specific clinical protocol and be able to make decisions independently.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with operational management of Client Services.
  • Assists supervisor with scheduling, training, and work assignments for Medical Lab Assistants and Phlebotomists.
  • Processes specimens maintaining positive specimen identification.
  • Maintains work area to ensure accurate processing.
  • Labels, processes and distributes specimens according to department standards.
  • Performs and results waived and moderately complex lab testing procedures, under supervision of a technologist.
  • Collects and collates data for quality assurance programs, administers patient satisfaction surveys, monitors supplies and assists with observational audits.
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures using venipuncture when necessary in accordance with standard laboratory policy and procedures.
