The Laboratory Assistant III collects and processes clinical blood and non-blood specimens; dispenses collection instructions to patients, maintains work area including records, supplies, equipment and safety; utilizes computer systems for data storage and retrieval; has working knowledge of ICD10 coding and Medicare compliance regulations; assists the leads with training new staff and students; maintains quality assurance and quality control standards.

  • Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document.
  • Collects and process clinical blood and non-blood specimens with patients of all ages.
  • Dispense collection instructions to patients.
  • Performs reception duties by answering phones, registering patients in EMR, checking insurance, and providing necessary paperwork to patients.
  • Follows procedures, policies, and Medicare compliance regulations.
  • Follows safety procedures and maintains a well-ordered work area including records, supplies, and equipment.
  • Utilizes computer systems for data storage and retrieval.
  • Displays working knowledge of ICD10 coding and Medicare compliance regulations.
  • Acts as a reliable resource for new staff, students, and co-workers.
  • Assists the Supervisor and leads with training.
  • Performs waived and moderate complexity testing, including microscopy, EKG, Spirometry, and Holter monitor set up.
  • Works independently at satellite laboratories.
  • Communicates and troubleshoots working as a team with the supervisor and leads to resolve any issues that occur throughout the day.
  • Has a thorough working knowledge of the laboratory information System, electronic medical records, telephones, and Practice Management systems.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and a working knowledge in all areas of the lab and working knowledge of all LIS used within the laboratory.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomist or equivalent required (ASCP, NPA or ASCLS).
  • One (1) year of phlebotomy experience required.
  • One (1) year of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire required.
  • Working knowledge of ICD10 coding, Medicare Compliance regulations and the Laboratory Information System.
  • Ability to work compatibly with physicians, patients, and other staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Ability to multitask while staying efficient and accurate.
