About The Position

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC and Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health member hospital, as well as to independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. The department is a leader in process improvement (LEAN/Six Sigma), which has resulted in a renovated space designed for efficient workflow. A place to learn and grow Our Laboratory Assistants receive laboratory specimens from inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and outside institutions. Candidates for this position need to have obtained their HS Diploma or GED, with some college coursework and previous laboratory experience preferred. We are looking for candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Our laboratory team is a high-functioning, dedicated team of professionals who work hard to the highest possible standard. This area of the lab runs testing on specimens to look for infections – these could be bacteria, viruses, and more! This is a hands-on job with a lot of unique techniques taught, from ‘plating’ specimens to promote good microbial growth to loading cutting-edge technology. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, day-shift position working Monday through Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. This position requires weekend and holiday rotation. We are offering a $2500 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. The bonus is available for external hires only, and certain conditions apply.

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills
  • Able to complete assignments with minimal direction and adapt to rapidly changing workflows
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, technicians, management, and subject matter experts.
  • High school graduate, college classes preferred
  • 1-2 years Lab or related experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality and receiving functions related to checking patient demographic information, registration, ordering, adding, and canceling tests, following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Prints and scans orders into the Laboratory information system.
  • Labels samples and delivers specimens to the testing department, loads analyzers, centrifuges, and performs specimen processing, restocks inventory, and maintains the organized lab space.
  • Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Assists with training, corrects simple errors
  • Conducts basic troubleshooting and orders special handles.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
