About The Position

The Outer Banks Hospital is a full-service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The 21-bed facility is designed to meet the needs of the coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 350,000 in the summer season. Its campus includes four ORs, a medical/surgical unit, a labor & delivery suite with a dedicated caesarian section OR, a full rehabilitation therapy center, cancer treatment and radiation therapy center, and a 24-hour emergency department. OBH is fully accredited, provides high quality care in a compassionate environment to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and has been nationally recognized for outstanding patient care. The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.

Requirements

  • High School, Equivalent (GED), or higher
  • Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting
  • Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency

Responsibilities

  • Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing.
  • With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and may perform chain-of-custody drug collections.
  • Perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned.
  • Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
  • Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.
