About The Position

ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people. The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will: * Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and may perform chain-of-custody drug collections. Perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies. * Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements. * Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.

Requirements

  • High School, Equivalent, or higher
  • Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred.
