The Laboratory Assistant position at Norman Regional Health System is a full-time role focused on supporting laboratory operations in a high-paced, community-oriented environment.   • Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
  • Processes specimens for testing, storage, and sends out to reference laboratories.
  • Provides assistance to clients and acts as a liaison between the client and the laboratory.
  • Picks up and delivers specimens/reports to clients, potentially using a company car.
  • Assists with vehicle maintenance and promotes safe driving.
  • Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms on outpatients and therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures.
  • Conducts testing procedures as indicated by section.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required during orientation and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • 3 months of phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care including drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college-level courses in a biological science.
