About the position

The Laboratory Assistant, CF performs standardized non-technical laboratory procedures in collecting and processing laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies under the supervision of the Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II. The role includes assisting in operating specialized laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with applicable State and federal laws and regulations as well as departmental policies and procedures. The Laboratory Assistant is also responsible for maintaining order, supervising the conduct of the incarcerated, and protecting the safety of persons and property. This is a limited term position for 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months or becoming permanent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized non-technical laboratory procedures.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist in operating specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Comply with applicable State and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of the incarcerated.
  • Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in laboratory work similar to that described.
  • Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
  • Satisfactory completion of a formalized laboratory work experience and training program of at least three months' duration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a valid State of California issued Phlebotomy certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II.
