About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant in the Core Lab is responsible for assisting with the required processing of laboratory specimens including but not limited to verification of specimen identification, requisition entry when necessary, centrifugation, and pouring of aliquots. This role involves performing a variety of clerical and technical procedures to prepare specimens for processing, result review, and verification. The assistant will also answer phones, assist with providing test result information to physicians, check inventory of supplies, and notify the supervisor when ordering may be necessary. Maintaining work areas in a neat, clean, and orderly manner is essential, as well as operating computers for required applications. Compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, as well as adherence to established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, is expected. The role may also involve performing other similar or related duties as required or as directed in all sections, areas, and shifts, while working closely with technical and clerical staff to maintain communication related to patient tests/processing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reading skills verified at ninth grade level or better.
  • Six months of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
