About The Position

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC and Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health member hospital, as well as to independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. The department is a leader in process improvement (LEAN/Six Sigma), resulting in a renovated space designed to improve workflow efficiency. A place to learn and grow Our Laboratory Assistants receive laboratory specimens from inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and outside institutions. Candidates for this position must have obtained an HS Diploma or GED, with some college coursework and prior laboratory experience preferred. We are looking for candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Our laboratory team is a high-performing, dedicated group of professionals who work to the highest standards. This Blood Bank area of the lab focuses on storing and preparing blood products for transfusion to patients during emergencies and surgeries. The lab assistant's role is to accept samples for testing and assist with delivering blood products to the care team. There are other roles within the section that keep the lab running smoothly, and the Blood Bank team relies heavily on their lab assistants to maintain organization and a calm environment. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week evening shift position with weekend and holiday rotation. We are offering a sign-on/retention bonus for this position. The bonus is available for external hires only, and certain conditions apply.

Requirements

  • High school graduate required.
  • Able to complete assignments with minimal direction and adapt to rapidly changing workflows.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment are required.
  • Strong computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months of laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality and receiving functions related to checking patient demographic information, registration, ordering, adding, and canceling tests, following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Prints and scans orders into the Laboratory information system.
  • Labels samples and delivers specimens to the testing department, loads analyzers and centrifuges, performs specimen processing, restocks inventory, and maintains the organized lab space.
  • Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
