About The Position

The Laboratory Animal Caretaker will take care of lab animals in order to help research work.

Requirements

• As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications.
• There are no minimum education or experience qualifications for appointment to this title.
• The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services
• Clear a background investigation
• Submit (3) written reference
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Responsibilities

• Washes and sterilizes animal caging equipment and supplies, including use of autoclaves, rack washers, tunnel washers, and other specialized equipment
• Monitors animals' health and welfare to detect symptoms of disease or changes in conditions and promptly reports them via facility protocol to veterinary staff
• Attends to the physical needs of animals such as feeding, watering, and providing environmental enrichment
• Performs minimal housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping and laundry
• Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
