About The Position

Under general supervision collects, analyzes and compiles data on finished, environmental, geochemical, industrial, petrochemical, waste water, and metallurgical samples to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and to ensure quality standards. Essential Job Functions: Ability to perform complex chemical and physical analyses on all water types and issue timely reports of data. Ability to provide information to other city employees and citizens pertaining to analytical results of water quality concerns. Ability to perform microbial examinations on all water types and issue timely reports of data. Ability to interpret quality control data and sample results. Other Job Functions: Ability to plan, direct, monitor and provide management oversight for Water Treatment, Laboratory Services, and Water Resource Services activities. Provides management of personnel including hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, rulemaking, safety assurance, and other duties supporting a team environment. Ability to plan, direct and monitor preparation and implementation of annual operating budget and capital improvement projects for Water Treatment, Laboratory Services, and Water Resource Services Ability to plan and implement actions that ensure meeting all regulatory requirements for water treatment, production, pretreatment, watershed management, and laboratory services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of advanced analytical and mathematical concepts and their application in conducting chemical and physical analyses.
  • Knowledge of complex chemical and physical analysis methodologies used to analyze water, waste water, environmental, petrochemical, geochemical, industrial and metallurgical samples.
  • Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment such as gas chromatograph and atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, sorting, holding and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to PC, calculator, telephone, and lab instruments.
  • Ability to work in an indoor environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, detailed records and prepare clear and concise written reports.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and citizens.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations on an on-call basis that requires immediate advanced analyses.
  • Incumbent is subject to biological hazards.
  • Incumbent is subject to fume/odor, dust/mites, chemical, mechanical, electrical, radiation and explosive hazards.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field
  • One year experience in water/wastewater field or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Class "D" Water Operator's License or higher (from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) within five (5) months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • TCEQ "C" water license preferred.
