We’re seeking a motivated Laboratory Analyst to support hydrocarbon testing operations in our Williston, ND lab. In this role, you’ll perform ASTM and API analytical testing on crude oil and production samples supporting upstream oil & gas operations. You will operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, ensure data accuracy within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and contribute to a high-throughput laboratory environment where quality, safety, and turnaround time are critical.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • 1+ years of professional hands-on analytical laboratory experience, preferably in hydrocarbon, petroleum, crude oil, or oil & gas testing environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and LIMS

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with lab equipment such as viscometers, flash point testers, or distillation units strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ASTM/API testing methods is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample preparation and analytical testing on crude oil and hydrocarbon samples in accordance with ASTM, API, and internal SOPs
  • Conduct physical and chemical analyses including (but not limited to) API gravity, BS&W (Basic Sediment & Water), viscosity, flash point, distillation, and sulfur content
  • Perform instrument calibration, verification, and routine maintenance to ensure data integrity
  • Evaluate results for accuracy, trends, and out-of-specification conditions, escalating issues as needed
  • Accurately record, review, and validate data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Support laboratory quality systems by adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), participating in audits, and assisting with investigations and corrective actions
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper handling of flammable, pressurized, and hazardous crude oil samples
  • Support sample custody by ensuring proper labeling, logging, and chain of custody procedures
  • Assist with laboratory housekeeping, sample organization, inventory management, and cross-training across test methods
  • Perform other duties as assigned
