About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to cheerfully greet customers and establish effective working relationships with other employees.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, and able to multi-task.
• Proper use of phone etiquette.
• Ability to present oneself positively with professionalism in written and verbal communication.
• Problem-solving skills, either individually or as part of a team.
• Phlebotomy skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture on outpatients and inpatients as assigned.
• Assume clerical duties in the absence of the Laboratory Assistant.
• Answer the phone, greet customers, and pull appropriate orders.
• Request orders from providers, call critical results, and file orders.
• Ensure that the patient or guardian signs all appropriate paperwork as outlined by procedure.
• Assure a payable diagnosis for all Medicare restricted tests or obtain an ABN from the patient if applicable.
• Accurately enter testing into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) from requisition.
• Recognize and solve problems by identifying the cause, synthesizing alternatives, determining solutions, and implementing the solution.
• Inventory, stock, and clean all blood drawing booths/trays.
• Accurately process send-over specimens.
• Assist with maintenance on refrigerators and wash all glassware, testing for detergent residue.
• Process specimens for send-out testing.
