About The Position

The Chicago office of Lewis Brisbois, a full-service AmLaw 100 firm, is actively seeking an attorney to join its Labor & Employment Practice. The ideal candidate will have at least twelve (12) years of experience in employment law matters, a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school, be a member of the Illinois bar and have experience practicing employment law, and possess excellent communication skills. Experience with counseling clients on all aspects of the employee life-cycle, class actions and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act is a plus. Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin licenses are a plus. Prior employment litigation experience is required (preferably on the management side), and employment counseling or in-house employment law experience is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys who are proactive and passionate about assuming a high-level role providing legal service within a sophisticated practice and who are seeking to assume a significant role in all aspects of employment law. This role requires extensive contact with clients, governmental agencies and opposing counsel.

Requirements

  • At least twelve (12) years of experience in employment law matters
  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Member of the Illinois bar
  • Experience practicing employment law
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Prior employment litigation experience (preferably on the management side)

Responsibilities

  • Independently managing a caseload from beginning to end
  • Communicating with clients and providing timely internal and external reporting
  • Working closely with other attorneys and Partners on matters
  • Drafting responsive pleadings
  • Handling all aspects of the discovery process
  • Drafting motions (including motions for summary judgment)
  • Conducting depositions and court appearances
  • Preparing position statements for the EEOC, IDHR and other Illinois agencies
  • Defending fact-finding conferences/on-site visits
  • Representing clients in mediations and conciliations
  • Negotiating settlements
