About The Position

The Lab Test NC Programmer at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in Savannah, GA, is responsible for performing complex numerical control (NC) programming activities. This includes analyzing engineering drawings, selecting optimal machining methods, and developing programs for NC milling machines and lathes. The role requires interaction with various teams to finalize plans and ensure the successful completion of projects. The programmer will also develop operator set-up sheets, flat pattern mylars, and 2-D Catia tool drawings as needed. The position may involve acting as a Team Leader, guiding lower-level engineers, and formulating NC policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related curriculum.
  • 4 years of machining, planning, tool design, or related manufacturing experience.
  • 2 years of experience as a numerical control engineer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of various machining and drafting methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Highly proficient with Catia modeling, drafting, and Catia NC Mill function.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an R&D environment with 3 and 5 axis programming.
  • Familiarity with NC Programming in Catia.
  • Familiarity with Vericut.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of engineering drawings, tool design drawings, and/or electronic models to determine optimal machining methods.
  • Interact with planners, tool designers, engineering, and customers to finalize plans.
  • Develop cutter motion logic per operation sequence, selecting proper spindle speeds and feed rates.
  • Perform thorough checks on all aspects of the program and verify cutter paths using Vericut.
  • Develop operator set-up sheets for numerical control machines.
  • Produce flat pattern mylars and templates as required.
  • Create 2-D Catia tool drawings as required.
  • May act as Team Leader, assigning work tasks and maintaining workload schedules.
  • Assist in training and guiding lower-level engineers.
  • Assist in formulating Numerical Control policies, procedures, and specifications.
