About The Position

SUMMARY The Laboratory Technician I provides laboratory and quality support through routine microbiological and chemical testing, HACCP monitoring, data entry, and sample preparation to ensure food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational quality standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Conducts basic microbiological or chemical analysis testing on in-process and finished product to support operational needs and ensure regulatory and customer compliance. Provides Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan related production support such as phosphatase testing and environmental monitoring. Performs microbiological analysis of production equipment and environment to ensure safe food production. Accurately enters data into company databases for finished product testing, environmental monitoring, and other quality-related activities. Prepares laboratory testing materials and samples for external laboratory testing. Assists with quality projects and studies through sample collection, preparation, and documentation of results. Maintains the QA sample retain library, including rotation, cleaning, and organization. Ensures laboratory supplies are stocked and rotated; reports low inventory to the Laboratory Technician II or Laboratory Supervisor. Promptly reports any food safety or quality concerns to management or authorized individuals. DIRECT REPORTS This position is not responsible for leading others. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Technical Knowledge: Interest in microbiological and chemical testing, with the ability and willingness to learn laboratory techniques and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Mathematical & Computer Skills: Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for weights, dilutions, and counts. Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and capable of learning lab data systems.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to accurately perform routine testing following standard operating procedures (SOPs). Recognizes potential issues or nonconforming results and promptly reports them to senior technicians or supervisors. Demonstrates accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail in all work.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Ability to read and follow written procedures and work instructions. Communicates clearly with team members and supports a collaborative work environment.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to apply general rules to specific problems and draw conclusions. Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with established procedures and priorities.

  • Obtain WDATCP Milk and Cream Testers license within 12 months of hire.
