About The Position

This position supports the City’s wastewater quality control program by performing entry-level laboratory testing and sample analysis. The role involves collecting and analyzing wastewater samples, operating and maintaining lab equipment, preparing reagents and media, and accurately recording and reporting data to meet regulatory and process control requirements. The position also supports lab operations through equipment maintenance, safety compliance, customer sample receiving, and participation in special projects and outreach activities.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, biology or a science related field is desired.
• One year of experience in the collection and analysis of water and/or wastewater samples.
• Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work required may be substituted.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR certificate.
• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Collect, preserve, and prepare samples for analysis.
• Prepare standard solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory
• Operate a variety of laboratory equipment; perform analytical
• Record equipment temperatures, maintain records and logs of sampling and data
• Perform maintenance, cleaning and calibration of laboratory equipment
• Assist with special projects as required
• Assist with customer sample receiving and inquiries as needed
• Participate in laboratory safety meetings and trainings
