Endoscopy Technician Works alongside physicians and nurses who diagnose and treat patients for gastrointestinal issues using an endoscope. An endoscope is a small flexible tube with a light and camera attached so doctors can see inside a patient's digestive tract.Endoscopy technicians prepare rooms and equipment before endoscopic procedures and clean up and sterilize after procedures. Assists with patient care activities a. Assists with collection of data for an objective assessment to identify patient concerns or human responses, e.g., vital signs. b. Responds to emergency situations as directed by RN Maintains safe and clean environment a. Wears personal protective equipment 100% of the time. b. Maintains standard precautions at all times with all patients. c. Demonstrates competence in applying aseptic technique. Performs physiology procedures a. Completes procedures in allotted time period. b. Reports patient care problems to Nurse Manager or designated delegate. c. Reports equipment problems to Nurse Manager or designated delegate. Quality and Safety Assists with equipment and scope maintenance a. Demonstrates competence in cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. b. Follows scope repair procedures. c. Inspects endoscopes for damage and reports any malfunctioning to the Nurse Manager. d. Orients other staff members to proper method for high level disinfection of scopes. e. Documents orientation and competence level on appropriate form
