About The Position

The Lab Technician (Non-Rep) in General Histology at Stanford Health Care is responsible for processing specimens, assisting in instrument maintenance, and performing clerical duties within the laboratory. This full-time evening position requires adherence to safety and regulatory standards while ensuring accurate specimen handling and data entry. The role supports the laboratory's operational efficiency and contributes to pre-clinical test development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
  • Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to technological changes in the laboratory.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

Responsibilities

  • Access patient information into Laboratory information systems.
  • Check all requests for proper and accurate patient information.
  • Notify relevant parties if a sample is inappropriate or compromised.
  • Prepare specimens and maintain pure viable stock cultures for testing.
  • Assist in routine preventive maintenance for laboratory instruments.
  • Inventory and order supplies, verifying delivery and restocking as needed.
  • Maintain logs and records for laboratory transactions in accordance with requirements.
  • Monitor temperatures of laboratory equipment and notify supervisors of exceptions.
  • Organize, catalog, and store patient specimen samples.
  • Participate in pre-clinical test development according to established protocols.
  • Perform clerical functions such as data entry and handling inquiries.
  • Process specimens including DNA and RNA extraction.
  • Determine suitability of specimens for analysis and perform pre-analytical processing as needed.
  • Receive and process all specimens following proper laboratory procedures.
  • Assist pathologist with frozen section preparation as applicable.
