About The Position

Build Your Career at H.G. Meigs! The Lab and Field Project Support Technician Intern is responsible for utilizing proper methods of testing of asphalt, emulsion and other road construction materials with the purpose of evaluating quality and process control and/or acceptance. The Lab Technician is key in holding the standard of product quality and providing general support wherever needed.

Requirements

  • Must be in the process of obtaining an Engineering, Chemistry or related degree
  • Willingness to work outside of standard hours, occasional weekends and overtime
  • Must be willing to work outdoors for extended periods
  • Must be open to occasional travel for project support
  • Ability to lift and manipulate 50 pounds occasionally or regularly throughout a shift
  • Must be willing to wear appropriate personal protective equipment where required
  • Must be able to tolerate scents common to fuels and asphalts

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in API standards, GPA, EPA and ASTM methods preferred
  • Basic knowledge of lab testing methods preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and test process functions and materials to ensure products meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate agency, customer, or project
  • Prepare and record accurate data and information to present to appropriate contacts in a timely manner
  • Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned
  • Evaluate data for deviations or trends away from accepted standards
  • Work collaboratively with a team of chemists, engineers, and lab technicians, to jointly solve problems and accomplish team objectives
  • Communicate with leadership on any product quality issues, trends or observations that impact quality, operations and customers
  • Conduct research and participate in technical training programs, as necessary, to facilitate lab efforts and increase knowledge base
  • Thoroughly document work performed in the lab, including updated notebooks, generating reports, batch records, etc., as required by management
  • Always work in a safe and responsible manner
