About The Position

WestRock Containerboard Technical Services is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support customer-facing quality testing and packaging analysis. This role will be heavily focused on corrugated and paper testing, data analysis, and communication with internal teams and customers. This is a hands-on lab role in a mill environment requiring a self-directed individual who can quickly operate independently after initial training.

Requirements

• 2-year or 4-year degree in Packaging, Paper Science, or related scientific field OR equivalent lab experience
• 1–2 years of experience in a laboratory, packaging, paper, or consumer goods environment
• Experience working with testing equipment and following structured procedures
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability to analyze data and work with basic statistical concepts
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Highly self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Education and employment verification required
• Ability to travel occasionally (approximately once per quarter)
• Must be comfortable working in a mill/lab environment

Nice To Haves

• Experience in paper, corrugated packaging, or consumer goods industries
• Familiarity with TAPPI testing methods

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing on corrugated board, packaging materials, and finished boxes using TAPPI test methods
• Handle sample receipt, conditioning, preparation, and testing
• Operate testing equipment and follow established procedures accurately
• Analyze test data and prepare weekly/monthly reports
• Maintain customer testing databases and documentation
• Communicate results and updates with internal teams and customer sites
• Support customer presentations and technical discussions
• Assist with project-based work including test planning, execution, and reporting
