About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support the daily operations of our laboratory. The primary goal of this role is to manage the technical aspects of the laboratory quality system, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 requirements and company standards. This individual will coordinate activities required to maintain technical compliance, monitor system performance, distribute reports, and collaborate with internal Lab Quality and Technical Specialists. The Lab Technician will play an essential role in ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory testing and reporting. Job Description: Applicants are not allowed to own any kind of birds due to the risk of possible disease transmission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow strict procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and overtime as required.
  • Must be comfortable handling farm samples while maintaining sample integrity.
  • Ability to recognize aberrant results, potential contamination, and maintain accurate data collection.
  • For biosecurity purposes, candidates cannot own or house any wild or domesticated avian species.
  • Must adhere to a 72-hour quarantine period following contact with non-company avian species.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive physical tasks involving bending, lifting, kneeling, standing, walking, and handling of live animals.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to traverse uneven terrain safely.
  • Frequently lift/carry objects and equipment weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to apply up to 50 lbs. of force to push carts.
  • Perform repetitive tasks requiring hand/wrist dexterity.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and work at floor level as tasks require.
  • Must wear PPE (safety glasses, gloves, work shoes, etc.) as required.
  • Exposure to dust, dander, chemicals (detergents, disinfectants, vaccines), bodily fluids, and farm-related odors.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme hot or cold temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior laboratory experience and familiarity with ISO 17025 standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the technical aspects of the laboratory quality system.
  • Coordinate and monitor activities to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 technical requirements.
  • Accurately process and analyze samples in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests under direct supervision and according to laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare media, reagents, and solutions used in testing.
  • Enter samples and results into the laboratory data management system.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies to avoid work delays.
  • Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and distribution of laboratory performance results.
  • Follow established procedures and work instructions to maintain compliance with biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic work environment, including workspace, equipment, and tools.
  • Participate in weekend rotations and flexible scheduling as required.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by Laboratory Management.
