About The Position

The technician will play a critical role in supporting the safe and effective operation of undergraduate teaching laboratories and research equipment across the College of Engineering, including specialized research facilities such as the MicaPlex and the Wind Tunnels in the Research Park. This position ensures that lab environments are well-maintained, compliant with safety standards, and properly equipped for weekly instructional use and research experiments. The technician will also oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of research equipment used by faculty and students.

Requirements

  • Advanced machining certificate (1500 hours) or equivalent including manual and CNC mills and lathes required.
  • CAD/CAM proficiency with Solid Works / Solid Cam or other popular software’s required.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety standards for equipment and personnel required.
  • Strong ability to communicate and mentor college students.

Responsibilities

  • Support instructional labs by setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment to ensure safe, effective learning environments.
  • Manage research equipment across the college, including maintenance, calibration, vendor coordination, and usage tracking.
  • Oversee inventory and procurement of lab supplies to prevent disruptions in operations.
  • Coordinate lab activities with faculty and staff, including equipment upgrades, installations, and space planning.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct inspections, and maintain compliance with university and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical support and participate in planning meetings related to lab operations and safety.
