About The Position

Collects samples, analyzes specimens, performs Q.C. performs instrument maintenance, performs necessary troubleshooting, reports results, and assists clerical functions. The work is subject to review by appropriate supervisors and the Medical Director of the Lab. This position requires interdepartmental support activities to more effectively provide patient care. This position requires accurate color perception. Must have excellent customer service. Requires variable work hours and weekend/holiday rotation including some scheduling on all shifts. Must maintain high level of accuracy while simultaneously performing a variety of tests/tasks. Must be contactable by phone for backup coverage. This position reports to shift or department supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Med Technologist (MT ASCP)
  • Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or related science; and/or Board-registered or eligible for registry by one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, HEW, etc.)
  • Must have degree in Medical Technology and/or baccalaureate degree in one of the life sciences to be eligible to work the bench in Microbiology. Technologists not meeting these requirements will be considered if they have an associate degree in a laboratory science and are experienced in Microbiology
  • Assist ambulatory patients independently
  • Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding to codes, monitors, pagers, phones, equipment alarms or patients calling for assistance, ability to auscultate B/P
  • Manual dexterity, as used for performing intricate procedures (catheter, dressing changes, IV starts), assembling medical equipment, caring for patients, typing, etc.
  • May require prolonged sitting or standing while performing laboratory procedures or operating various laboratory equipment and computers
