About The Position

The Lab Support Specialist at Parkland Health & Hospital is responsible for processing specimens and data entry to ensure the integrity of samples and expedite test completion. This role is crucial in maintaining accurate records and providing excellent customer service within the laboratory environment.

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of data entry and customer service in a laboratory environment preferred.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of a personal computer and ability to learn and efficiently use required software.
• Effective communication skills with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain accurate records/logs.
• Good organizational skills and prioritizing abilities.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for receiving specimens/blood and tissue products, assessing specimen/product integrity, verifying labeling and documentation, and processing data entry of orders quickly and correctly.
• Orders/verifies requested tests in Laboratory Information Systems and verifies sample receipt time and date.
• Prepares/processes specimens for testing as required by lab procedures and follows proper specimen storage requirements.
• Utilizes customer-service skills to interface with internal and external customers, providing information regarding patient test results.
• Assists with loading patient specimens on designated instrumentation and performs Point of Care (POC) testing as required.
• Clocks in requisitions, separates by patient, and triages by priority according to department protocol.
• Identifies ways to improve work processes and procedures and makes recommendations to supervisor for appropriate changes.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the laboratory area.
• Stays abreast of the latest developments in the Laboratory area by attending in-services and department meetings.
• Maintains a clean working environment to ensure maximum safety for all employees.
