About The Position

To assist the technologists in the performance of laboratory duties, which include but are not limited to labeling, organizing and maintaining COVID, blood chemistry, histology and urine samples and procedures. Responsible for providing technical assistance, expertise, day to day specimen problem solving and following all Laboratory safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent Work, required
  • 0–1-year related work experience, required
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required
  • Moderate-High level Computer skills, required
  • Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)
  • Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
  • Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required
  • Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling)

Nice To Haves

  • 2–4-year related work experience, preferred
  • Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of specimens for testing which meet the laboratory’s criteria.
  • Readies specimens for placement onto analyzers, ensuring that the barcoded label is properly affixed to the specimen tubes and reference laboratory requisitions
  • Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens
  • Registers, retrieves, discards specimens as appropriate
  • Familiar with tube types, test request and medical terminology
  • Sanitize equipment and workspace
  • Performs pipetting, organizing of samples as needed
  • Troubleshoot problem specimens to find resolution
  • Ensures that specimens were collected in proper additive or that additive is added before specimen is sent for testing
  • Centrifuge specimens that are delivered to the lab after appropriate amount of time has elapsed for proper clotting
  • Discard aged specimens in appropriate disposal units
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned that are within the scope of ability
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
