About The Position

Loyola Medicine, a member of Trinity Health, is a nationally ranked academic, quaternary care system based in Chicago's western suburbs. Loyola Medicine Transport is based at Loyola University Medical Center and is part of a three-hospital system including Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, and MacNeal Hospital. The Lab Support Service Tech supports the delivery of patient care through the receipt, processing, and routing of specimens. This role also completes registration of outside patients, including billing and insurance information, and provides customer-friendly service to anyone requesting supplies or information by phone, computer, or in person.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties for pre- and post-analytical testing according to standard operating procedures.
• Receives and evaluates all specimens to ensure positive identification and appropriateness of sample.
• Properly processes samples for testing performed in-house and/or referred to outside laboratories.
• Interacts positively with clients when inappropriate specimens or short samples have been submitted.
• Works with fellow team members to properly triage and efficiently move samples through the pre-analytical phase of testing.
