About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lab Supervisor for a working supervisor role. This position requires the candidate to work on the bench frequently, typically three days per week. The Lab Supervisor will be responsible for managing lab employees, ensuring adherence to laboratory procedures, and maintaining high standards of quality control.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Having a strong experience in Chemistry is ESSENTIAL.
  • Previous supervising experience of at least 1 year is required.
  • Knowledge of CLIA regulations.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Tech program, typically resulting in an associate degree.
  • Certification as a Medical Tech by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Responsibilities

  • Report to the lab manager/director and manage lab employees effectively.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and reporting.
  • Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in-house.
  • Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.
  • Perform specimen analysis for Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
  • Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment efficiently.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
  • Adhere to quality control policies and document all QC activities and instrument calibrations.
  • Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
  • Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results annually.
  • Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials.
  • Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment.
  • Record results accurately on worksheets and computer systems.
  • Process specimens for send-out testing.
  • Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify the supervisor.
  • Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
  • Verify all critical results with accurate follow-up documentation.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable for patient testing.
  • Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.
  • Restock the laboratory area as necessary.
  • Process in-house and incoming results for charting and chart patient results timely.
