We are currently seeking a LABORATORY SUPERVISOR needed for our busy in-house Lab within our out-patient medical offices in Myrtle Beach. ASCP Certification is required and at least 2 years of management is also preferred. Hours are Monday through Thursday 7:45 am - 5:15 pm and Fridays 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. Must be able to travel between offices. GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Lab Supervisor organizes and directs the daily activities of the laboratory. Responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, Calibrations, Linearity, Supervision of the POC program and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results. The Lab Supervisor works in a laboratory environment That is either independent or part of a larger entity and performs duties that enable the laboratory to function on a day-to-day basis. Unlike a lab technician, a laboratory supervisor has significant managerial duties and responsibilities. Topics like safety protocol, disciplinary action, Staff scheduling, time sheets, performance evaluations all fall under the laboratory supervisor job description. The supervisor plays a role as liaison between outpatient offices. They are expected to schedule office time each month in the outpatient offices to be available to providers and staff. The Lab Supervisor is often required to make staffing decisions like hiring and firing with input from the Lab Director. Since a laboratory supervisor works on-site, they are also expected to perform many of the same tasks as a technician. They usually must directly apply their technical knowledge and background in the sciences on a daily basis. They will also oversee the work of others. A significant portion of the laboratory supervisor duties focuses on human interaction in all outpatient offices. The laboratory supervisor must use their communication skills to ensure that management’s practices are being followed. The laboratory is a dynamic environment where various workers with different personalities are attempting to work towards a common goal, and it is the responsibility of the laboratory supervisor to make sure that all workers have this goal in mind and do not behave in ways that are counterproductive In cases where disciplinary action is required, the laboratory supervisor has to be able to convey that action and the purpose behind it without unduly intimidating the worker. Being too rough may cause resentment or hurt feelings or otherwise cause an unsatisfactory relationship between employee and employee. Likewise, it is the duty of the laboratory supervisor to offer praise and encouragement when deserved to promote a positive work environment.
