About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Lab Director or Lab Manager, the Lab Supervisor coordinates and supervises the flow of the daily activities in Lab, may prepare schedules for assigned staff, assist in the triage of open/available shifts. May interview candidates for positions in assigned areas. May perform performance appraisals of assigned team members and completes areas' payroll records as needed. Will be tasked with coordinating employee training and review of employee initial, semi-annual and annual competencies. Assists with creating and implementation and review of policies and procedures to meet the various accrediting agencies' regulations and laws. Along with the Lab Director/Manager the Lab Supervisor would be involved with project planning and/or implementation and follow up. The Lab Supervisor may be responsible for interfacing with other departments, physicians and their office staff, patients and their families, visitors and Lab employees, as needed and acts in concert with the Laboratory Director/Manager to counsel employees for performance evaluations and / or disciplinary action, as needed. Plans and coordinates daily activities for laboratory personnel including covering for bench work, reference lab work pending/review/report. May be assigned quality and data reviews, supply evaluation and ordering, workflow monitoring, safety and ergonomic evaluations - to include environment of care rounds, regulatory reviews, inspections and follow-up when needed. The Lab Supervisor will be well-versed in equipment maintenance, quality data, proficiency and regulatory data/inspections/reviews and process improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in medical technology or related science required OR Bachelor degree and certification in subspecialty area OR "Grandfathered" as a medical technologist by CLIA 88.
  • MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MLS (ASCP) or, as appropriate, BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), I (ASCP), H(ASCP), or M(ASCP) certification or equivalent required. Job duties may dictate the allowable certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in an accredited laboratory required and 3 years' experience as a lead tech or supervisory position preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication.
  • Must have problem solving skills and be able to follow verbal and written directions accurately.
  • Flexible and self-motivated.
  • A team player with the ability to interact with all contacts in a pleasant, positive and courteous manner.
  • Able to handle periods of intensity with calm.
  • Capable of functioning with initiative and independent judgment.
  • Must have current broad knowledge of the laboratory.
  • Able to work in stressful situations while maintaining composure and perform the required duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital laboratory and supervisory experience preferred.
