About The Position

The Laboratory Supervisor plans, coordinates, and supervises the operations and staff of the clinical laboratory while maintaining effective quality, safety, and accreditation requirements. The Laboratory Supervisor ensures timely and accurate laboratory services are provided to the patients and BMC staff while adhering to policy and budgeting guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • One year of leadership experience.
  • Four years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Registration/certification from the American Society of Clini

Responsibilities

  • Formulates department goals consistent with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Supervises and participates in personnel management activities for the laboratory through the motivation and training of current staff and the interviewing, hiring, orientation, and training of all new staff.
  • Provides hands-on support within the laboratory on a regular basis and is responsible for mentoring and developing the team.
  • Ensures adequate scheduling and staffing of the department so that timely, cost-effective, and accurate services are maintained.
  • Ensures all quality control, preventative maintenance, lab results, and proficiency tests are performed accurately and appropriately by staff.
  • Ensures all supply inventory and equipment meets the current needs of the department while also evaluating and making decisions on new laboratory equipment to stay abreast of new technologies.
  • Conducts performance appraisals and manages personnel issues for laboratory staff and provides feedback in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Reviews and completes time records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting guidelines and agencies, including the FDA, CAP, and DNV.
  • Ensures that processes and procedures are safe, appropriate, and cost-effective.
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains appropriate manuals as necessary.
  • Participates in the instruction and evaluation of MLT, MLS, and phlebotomy students.
  • Administers continuing education in both technical and managerial areas with special emphasis on Service Excellence and teamwork.
  • Champions and demonstrates the organization’s REACH values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
