About The Position

The Lab Specimen Processor plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by admitting patients and processing specimens efficiently. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The role involves operating laboratory equipment and communicating test results to physicians, contributing to patient care and laboratory operations.

Requirements

• No experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Admits patients and processes specimens and orders in the appropriate LIS system.
• Ensures proper patient identification and labeling of all specimens or rejects specimens according to policy.
• Operates the pneumatic tube system and prioritizes specimens into routine and stat categories.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to tests ordered, accurately labeling all tubes.
• Delivers specimens to laboratory areas and properly stores all specimens.
• Communicates test results to physicians and faxes results upon request.
• Abides by all regulatory and infection control guidelines.
• Performs phlebotomy, morgue duties, and waived or moderately complex testing as needed and approved by the Medical Director.
