Lab Shipping & Receiving Technician
About The Position
We are seeking a Lab Shipping & Receiving Technician to join our team in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. This is a long-term contract position with the potential for hire. The role involves managing laboratory samples, preparing media shipments, and utilizing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a willingness to learn new technologies. Training will be provided for all necessary tasks.
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with computers.
- Ability to quickly learn various programs and adopt new technology.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is preferred but not required.
- No prior experience with lab equipment or media orders is necessary; training will be provided onsite.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to complete data entry of submitted samples (~50%).
- Collect and package media listed on Media Order forms independently and ship media orders to clients (~30%).
- Perform gravimetric analysis of air samples prior to preparation for contaminant-specific analysis, following the lab's quality control procedures (~10%).
- Assemble and prepare air sampling media for industrial hygienists and external clients (~10%).
- Communicate with clients, both written and verbally, to support media requests and sample log-in.
- Open and check incoming sample shipments against the Chain of Custody and log them into the LIMS system.
- Prepare outgoing media shipments and create UPS labels.
- Enter received chemicals into the chemical inventory system (sealed, unopened bottles of solvents, metals, etc.).
