Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a certified Lab Shift Supervisor with a Blood Bank background. The shift is from 2:30pm to 1:00am, rotating weekends and holidays. The position involves performing various laboratory tests and procedures, adhering to standard operating procedures, supervising direct reports, managing employee performance, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The role also includes maintaining a clean and safe work environment, participating in quality improvement standards, and engaging in professional development activities.

  • Perform various laboratory tests and procedures including biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures on patient specimens.
  • Supervise direct reports and manage employee performance.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback including mid-year and annual evaluations.
  • Orient and train employees, verify competency, and identify ways to develop skills.
  • Assign and prioritize workload.
  • Perform preventive and advanced maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate inventory supply and ordering.
  • Evaluate the validity of quality control, specimens, and test results.
  • Ensure reporting of critical values following standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Review and investigate reports to ensure scheduled tests are completed.
  • Independently research and assist in the development of new procedures.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware related problems and oversee system backups.
  • Attend educational in-services and maintain certification as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification by relevant accreditation agencies (e.g., MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), etc.).
  • Three (3) years of medical technology experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
