Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a certified Lab Shift Supervisor with a Blood Bank background. The shift is from 2:30pm to 1:00am, rotating weekends and holidays. The position involves performing various laboratory tests and procedures, adhering to standard operating procedures, supervising direct reports, managing employee performance, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Perform various laboratory tests and procedures including biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures on patient specimens.
  • Supervise direct reports and manage employee performance.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback including mid-year and annual evaluations.
  • Orient and train employees, verify competency, and identify ways to develop skills.
  • Assign and prioritize workload.
  • Perform preventive and advanced maintenance, troubleshoot, and communicate with service representatives.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate inventory supply and ordering.
  • Evaluate the validity of acceptable quality control, specimens, and test results.
  • Ensure reporting of critical values following standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Review and investigate reports to ensure scheduled tests have been completed.
  • Independently research and assist in the development of new procedures.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware related problems and oversee system backups.
  • Attend educational in-services and maintain certification as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification by relevant accreditation agencies (e.g., MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), etc.).
  • Three (3) years of medical technology experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
